Inserting the cup

With a little patience, inserting the cup is comfortable and quick, even during the first few times. We’ve prepared a few tips for you to make it easier to start using the cup.

Before using for the first time

Before you try the cup properly, do not cut off the extended end – the stem, which makes the cup easier to grasp when you take it out. After trying out the cup, you can (but do not have to) gradually shorten the stem to a length that suits you, or cut it off completely.

Disinfection

Before starting each menstrual cycle, it is important to boil your Yuuki cup in water for 5 minutes. This will destroy any bacteria that have got into the cup during storage.

Make sure there is enough water in the pot you are boiling the cup in. it is essential that the entire cup is submerged in water to prevent it from distorting.

Insertion

  • 1. Before actually inserting the cup, wash your hands and fold the cup.
  • 2. Find the most comfortable position for you. This is generally a squat.
  • 3. Insert the folded cup into your vagina so that the bottom of the cup is approx. 1 cm from the entrance to the vagina.
  • 4. After it has been inserted, the cup will unfold and cling to the vaginal wall.
  • 5. You can unfold the cup by turning it slightly or running your finger round it.

Tip: The cup is easier to insert when it is wet, or you can use a water-based lubrication gel.

It is possible that the cup will leak the first couple of times you insert it, as the edge of the cup is not completely flush with the vaginal wall. However, don’t panic. This is completely normal and every woman has to get used to her own way of inserting the cup that suits her best. You’ll see that a little patience pays off.

Removing the cup

Every woman’s menstrual flow is different, so it is not possible to exactly state when the cup should be taken out. However, the cup usually needs to be emptied every 4 - 8 hours.

  • 1. Removing the cup is easier in the squatting posture.
  • 2. Grasp the reinforced bottom of the cup by the indentations or by the stem and carefully extract it. Clenching your vaginal muscles will help you to take it out.
  • 3. Rinse the cup in water and re-insert.

If you want to wash the cup with soap, use only neutral detergents designed for this purpose. If you know that you will not have any water to rinse it, it is best to take a small bottle of water with you to the toilet and rinse it there. You can wipe the cup carefully with a paper tissue.
